John L. Freshour

The Compass Counselors LTD was founded by John Freshour with the desire of meeting the needs of clients whom have experienced difficulties in their lives.

John has been counseling individuals and leading small groups since 1995. He was called to attend Lincoln Christian Seminary, whereas he obtained his Masters in Counseling degree. After a career in the social work arena and acquiring his Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor certificate from the state, he elected to go into private practice. John is a problem solver, highly intuitive, and is honored to walk with people in times of distress.

Utilizing a Christian worldview, John draws from his professional education, training, past experience, while using compassion and empathy to deliver hope and guidance to his clients.

John is a Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC) and has a passion for working with men and women that have experienced trauma. He often utilizes EMDR to address the symptoms of PTSD.



Ken Martin

Ken has experience in treating a wide variety of conditions, including marital/relationship problems, anxiety, panic, fear, feelings of low self-worth, sex/pornography addiction, men’s issues and more.

You are encouraged and invited to incorporate your assets and strengths in therapy with Ken, including any relational, spiritual, and cultural beliefs/practices. Ken approaches clients with an empathetic, compassionate, person-centered focus. His calm demeanor and lightheartedness bring a peaceful, uplifting quality to the therapeutic experience. Utilizing a variety of evidence-based/research supported treatment approaches, Ken welcomes the opportunity to help you reach your mental health goals.

Ashley Nichole Frizzell

Taking the first step reaching out to a counselor can be difficult. Ashley loves meeting new people and quickly is able to put people at ease.

She finds great enjoyment hearing other people’s stories.

Her approach with children and teens includes a lot of humor and is lighthearted with lots of play and silliness. Her approach with adults is unconditional positive regard seeing them through the lens of grace. She always offers encouragement and hope with a side of gentle challenging of unhealthy patterns.

Ashley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She is most passionate about helping children, teens, and women work through unhealthy patterns of living.

In addition to pulling from her own experiences in marriage, motherhood, life, and 15 years of counseling, Ashley uses theories of Christian Counseling, CBT, DBT, Play Therapy, and motivational interviewing.



Jennifer Belle

Jennifer would love to walk alongside you and build a partnership to effectively process relationship issues, grief/loss, depression, anxiety or various life transitions.

Preteens, adolescents, young adults, adults as well as couples can all benefit from therapy and working together to improve overall functioning.

Jennifer’s desire is to help her clients overcome their current challenges and to help resolve and cope with past issues.


Stephanie Brown

Many individuals and families have been through very difficult circumstances, including trauma. We often do not have a choice about the circumstances we face, but we can heal from these experiences and even turn them into opportunities for growth. Stephanie has been a licensed clinical counselor in the state of IL for 13 years. She has experience working with individuals and families who have been impacted by trauma and other difficult life circumstances.

Stephanie also enjoys helping people develop strategies for managing their anxiety, including cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

Stephanie will take the time to get to know you and your family to determine the best way to move forward in life. It would be her privilege to come alongside you and your family to find hope and healing.


Jenifer Nibbio

Jenifer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience counseling children, adolescents and adults.

Her specialty is working with women.

Areas of expertise include codependency, boundaries, trauma, loss, sexual abuse, separation and divorce issues, anxiety, and depression.

Jenifer implements services through individual and group therapy. She provides Christian counseling through the scope of God’s Word and believes God brings healing and redemption into a person’s life story.
